Since the order to stop caning in schools was issued, the authority and fear of teachers have vanished. Parents at home are troubled, and in schools, teachers, discipline, etiquette, and manners have all been swept away by the wave of Western thinking. Without fear, love or respect is never achieved.
Indian schools are only producing disrespectful troublemakers who have no interest in the pursuit of knowledge or engaging in meaningful activities that make their parents proud. Since the practice of physical punishment and caning has ceased, we have seen a general decline in respect for discipline and values.

"In our days, hooligans and troublemakers were kept in check by the fear of being caned publicly during the morning assembly by a strict-looking principal who had retired from the army. Nowadays, no one cares about teachers. Discipline and good manners have been thrown into the trash," said a former student of St. Peter's College in Agra.
In rural areas, government teachers have lost all interest because students do not listen to them. According to a retired principal of a village school, "Most students loiter around for free stuff and midday meals. Teachers are afraid of student gangs."
Social worker Padmini Iyer says that students' social behaviour, as reflected in their abusive language and interactions with girls and female teachers, is a matter of concern. A recently retired teacher from a government school in Firozabad says, "This is all due to Western influence. Our society is different. We need military-like discipline in schools. We need to make life tough for boys. Remember the ancient wisdom, spare the rod, spoil the child."
Senior teacher Meera blames the pampering parents who rush to the principal's office to complain against strict teachers. A teacher says, "Without the fear of punishment, students these days waste a lot of time watching nonsense reels or porn and many take drugs; the consumption of gutkha and tobacco has also increased."
Senior teacher Hari Sharma says, "Teachers do not even have the freedom to scold them."
Retired teacher Radhe Shyam Gupta says that there were many health reasons behind punishing children. As a punishment, children were drained from excess unnecessary energy by drawing them into a ‘Murga’ or making them stand for a long time in various Yoga postures.
The former principal of St. Peter's, Father John Ferreira, successfully used creative and healthy forms of punishment. Students who did not complete their homework or skipped school were asked to perform Yoga Asanas, Anulom-Vilom, or Kapalbhati.
The concept of caning as a disciplinary measure in schools has long been a topic of heated debate. Supporters of this form of punishment argue that it plays a crucial role in maintaining discipline and fostering responsible behaviour among students.
Caning is believed to have several advantages that make it a desirable disciplinary tool. Firstly, it acts as a powerful deterrent, dissuading students from misbehaving out of fear of facing physical consequences. The immediate nature of physical punishment also enables students to quickly understand the consequences of their actions.
One key benefit of caning is its role in instilling respect for authority figures and rules in students. By enforcing discipline through caning, teachers can create a sense of order in the classroom, allowing for a conducive learning environment.
Moreover, the consistent application of caning ensures uniformity in disciplinary measures across the student body.
