Workshop held on ‘Career Sensitization and Employability Skills’

Aligarh: The Dialog Forum of the Department of Philosophy at Aligarh Muslim University, in collaboration with the Training and Placement Office, organized a workshop on ‘Career Sensitization and Employability Skills’.

In his presidential remarks, Prof Arif Nazir, Dean, the Faculty of Arts, emphasized the importance of career and employability concerning ancient texts, including the Gita and other Sanskrit texts. He advised students to follow their passion by acquiring skills not only to impart knowledge but to cultivate creativity and employability.

Dr Aquil Ahamed, Chairperson, the Department of Philosophy, welcomed the guest speakers and highlighted the workshop's significance, underlining various aspects of the career and job market, and urged students to participate in extra-curricular activities for overall personality development.

Discussing the workshop's theme, Saad Hameed, Training and Placement Officer shared and employed various examples and stories to create awareness among students. He clarified the concept of career by differentiating it from job and employability. He stated that clarity in the purpose of life is crucial for career planning.

Dr Muzammil Mushtaq, from the Department of Library and Information Science, discussed different steps of the recruitment process and highlighted the basic structure and components of resume writing.

Dr Suhalia Parveen, from the Department of Commerce, familiarized students with interview techniques and highlighted the importance of personality development, communication skills, positive attitude and stress management as necessary ingredients.

Earlier, Dr Shahidul Haque, Coordinator of the Dialog Forum, initiated the inaugural session with an introductory remark highlighting the aims and objectives of the Forum and the workshop.

Aliya, a member of the Forum, conducted the programme, while Shaista Akhter proposed a vote of thanks.
