AMU set to mentor five Regional Universities in NEP implementation

Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University has emerged as a frontrunner in implementing the National Education Policy. AMU has restructured its academic and administrative frameworks by adopting a progressive and transformative approach, setting a benchmark for higher education institutions nationwide.

Further solidifying its leadership, AMU has been selected to mentor five regional universities in successfully implementing NEP-2020, ensuring the policy’s vision is effectively realised beyond its campus. These universities are Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh State University of Aligarh, Gautam Buddha University of Greater Noida, Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University of Agra, Chaudhary Charan Singh University of Meerut and Pt DeenDayal Upadhyay Veterinary University of Mathura.

NEP-2020, designed to revamp India’s education system, emphasises multidisciplinary learning, skill development, inclusivity, and research-driven innovation. AMU’s proactive adoption of these principles reflects its commitment to equity, accessibility, and quality education while aligning with global education objectives such as Sustainable Development Goal 4, which promotes inclusive and equitable education for all.

The university has successfully transitioned to a multidisciplinary academic structure, eliminating traditional barriers between departments and fostering interdepartmental collaboration.

With the introduction of interdisciplinary programs, students can gain broader knowledge and skill sets. Flexible curricula, offering multiple entry and exit points and a modular credit-based system, allow students to tailor their education according to their career goals and aspirations.

AMU has also strongly emphasised skill development, seamlessly integrating industry-relevant courses and internship opportunities into its academic framework. These initiatives ensure students graduate with the practical skills required to thrive in an increasingly competitive global job market.

To further its commitment to research and innovation, AMU has enhanced its research ecosystem, creating an environment conducive to impactful studies. Faculty and students engage in research projects addressing critical societal challenges, resonating with NEP-2020’s vision of fostering a culture of innovation.

Digital transformation has been another area of focus under AMU’s NEP-2020 implementation. The university has adopted state-of-the-art technologies to modernise teaching, learning, and administrative processes. Faculty development programs and workshops have ensured educators are well-equipped to employ innovative and effective pedagogical methods in the digital age.
