Event organized to inspire girls to pursue male-dominated fields

Aligarh: The IEEE Women in Engineering Affinity Group of Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology at Aligarh Muslim University organized a workshop titled ‘Breaking Barriers: The Journey of Women Engineers’ at the Senior Secondary School (Girls).

This event aimed to inspire young female students to pursue engineering and overcome challenges in a traditionally male-dominated field.

Nagma Irfan, Principal of Senior Secondary School (Girls), welcomed the attendees. Dr Safia Akhtar Kazmi, Faculty Advisor of WIE and Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, as well as the Coordinator at the Centre for Integrated Green and Renewable Energy, outlined the workshop's objectives and highlighted the importance of supporting women in engineering.

The workshop featured a series of presentations. IEEE student representatives discussed the current landscape for women in engineering, examining both the challenges and emerging opportunities. Dr Qurratulain gave a talk on ‘Empowering Change: Overcoming Challenges and Shaping the Future of Women in Engineering’, encouraging students to envision a promising future in the field.

Juveria Sajid offered practical advice on ‘Pathway to Success: Study Abroad’, providing valuable insights for students interested in international education and careers.

Interactive activities, including a ‘Myths and Facts about Women Engineers’ session, a quiz, and a motivational sticky note board, engaged participants and sparked reflection on the evolving role of women engineers. To conclude the event, a Plantation Drive under the Green Campus initiative took place, showcasing participants' commitment to environmental sustainability.

The workshop's event coordinators were Syeda Fatima Jafri, Fatima Wajih, Swaleha Khan, Sadia Aiman, Sara Maryam, Mohd Haris, Jauwad Jamal Khan, Abbas Safvi, and Asna Fatimah. Additionally, volunteers from Senior Secondary School (Girls), including Sania Zehra Naqvi, Sarah Athar, Amina Ashfaq, Anum Fatima, Kaushiki, Alishba Khan, Samiyah Abbas, Aqsa Chaudhary, and Nikita Chaturvedi, played a crucial role in ensuring smooth operations
