Aligarh: The Department of Economics at Aligarh Muslim University organized a lecture on ‘Economics of Informal Sector,’ delivered by noted economist, Prof. Saumya Chakrabarti, Head, Department of Economics and Politics, Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan in West Bengal.
Prof. Chakrabarti spoke at length about the structural transformation taking place in the informal sector in India, with special reference to labour productivity, including the self-employed. He discussed the job-switching pattern of workers in the informal sector in the urban and rural areas and how it can be beneficial for them.
He provided a comparative analysis of the functioning of the informal sector of India compared to the informal sector in other countries.
Earlier welcoming the guest speaker, Prof. Shehroz Alam Rizvi, Chairman of the department and Programme Convener, introduced the speaker and appreciated the measures taken by the government to solve the problems of the informal sector by introducing Pradhan Mantri Rozgar Protsahan Yojana, Aatmanirbhar Bharat Rozgar Yojana, Skill India Programme, etc.
Dr Shirin Rais, Co-Convener, conducted the programme.
