Workshop on fashion photography held in Community College


Aligarh: The Fashion Design and Garment Technology Section of the Community College at Aligarh Muslim University organised a one-day workshop on ‘Fashion Photography: Mastering Camera Techniques’ for students of B.Voc. and M.Voc.

The convener of the workshop, Dr Mohd Yunus Khan, Course Coordinator for Fashion Design and Garment Technology, welcomed the participants and outlined the objectives of the workshop.

Prof Arshad Umar, Nodal Officer of the Community College, discussed the scope of fashion photography in the modern fashion industry. He also mentioned career opportunities such as working for fashion magazines, collaborating with designers, and joining fashion brands.

Resource person Amaan Qasim, a professional photographer and CEO of AQ Motion Pictures shared his expertise in photography techniques, visual storytelling, and the technical aspects of capturing impactful fashion images. As a professional photographer, he provided insights into working with models, setting up shoots, and achieving the desired aesthetic that aligns with a brand's vision.

He also discussed different camera angles, shutter speeds, and lenses and also the impact of lighting on photography.

Fashion designer Shahid Afridi, Managing Director of Sky High Modeling Agency, based in New Delhi provided valuable insights into the world of fashion events and runway configurations. He mentioned prominent fashion weeks, such as Lakme Fashion Week, London Fashion Week, and Delhi Times, underscoring their importance in setting trends.

Afridi explored various arrangements for runway presentations, and went into detail about the different formations used in runway shows, from solo walks that spotlight individual garments to group walks that showcase coordinated collections.

Farha introduced the resource persons. Nazia Begum and Shagufta Haseen moderated the sessions of the Workshop. Tazyin Warees and Atifa Malik conducted the programme, while Nimra Khan proposed a vote of thanks.
