Aligarh: Professor Gulfishan Khan, Coordinator and Chairperson of the Centre for Advanced Study in the Department of History at Aligarh Muslim University presented a paper entitled “Mughal Environmental Concerns in the Suba/City of Kabul” in the 82nd Annual Session of the Indian History Congress, hosted recently by the Kakatiya University’s Department of History and Tourism Management, at Warangal in Telangana.

In her paper, Prof Khan presented multiple discourses about Kabul’s natural environment, functional topography, major buildings, gardens, and natural resources. Kabul was an important province of the Mughal Empire, especially due to its strategic location.

She described the major gardens laid and nourished by the Mughal emperors which included  Bagh i-Safa and Bagh-i Wafa (Garden of Fidelity) located outside Jalalabad, Bagh-i Babur in Kabul, and  Bagh-i Farah Afza (The Pleasure-augmenting Garden) at Nimla (some 40 kilometers from Jalalabad) laid by the emperor Shah Jahan.

Besides, more than thirty papers were presented by the faculty and research students of the Department of History in various pre-organized sessions and symposia. These papers covered a wide range of themes such as regional and environmental histories, historiographies, art and artistic cultures, business and commerce, national movements, as well as aspects of ancient history and archaeological studies.
